Oral Antiplatelet Agents in Dialysis Patients: Friends or Foes?
نویسنده
چکیده
Thrombotic cardiovascular events are one of the main causes of morbidity and mortality in dialysis patients [1] and vascular access thrombosis remains the Achilles’ heel for patients undergoing maintenance hemodialysis (HD) [2]. HD and uremia are characterized by two simultaneous but opposite hematological abnormalities: a thrombotic predisposition and a bleeding tendency mainly due to impaired platelet-platelet and platelet-vessel wall interactions [3-5].

Is it necessary to stop antiplatelet agents before a native renal biopsy?
BACKGROUND The practice of advising patients to stop antiplatelet agents before an elective renal biopsy is widespread. The aim of this study was to compare the rate of bleeding complications in two centres that have different policies regarding the ongoing use of antiplatelet agents in patients undergoing an elective renal biopsy. Neither centre routinely checks bleeding time before renal biop...
متن کاملStroke in dialysis and chronic kidney disease.
BACKGROUND Renal impairment is a potent risk factor for stroke that is a leading cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide. Dialysis patients experience a 10-fold higher incidence, with case fatality rates reaching 90%. It is important to understand the factors predisposing to stroke in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) coupled with an appreciation of preventative strategies. SUMMAR...
متن کاملStroke in Patients with Chronic Kidney Disease…: How do we Approach and Manage it?
Renal failure is a potent risk factor for stroke, which is a leading cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide. The risk of stroke is 5-30 times higher in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD), especially on dialysis. Case fatality rates are also higher reaching almost 90%. It is therefore important to understand the factors that predispose to stroke in this vulnerable population to bette...
متن کاملHemorrhagic events in patients receiving heparin or enoxaparin in combination with Oral antithrombotics, NSAIDs, and antiplatelet medications: A multi-center case-series study
Background: Hemorrhagic events are amongst the major adverse effects of injectable anticoagulants such as heparin and enoxaparin. This necessitates close monitoring of their use for clinically relevant drug-drug interactions. Aim: To study the rate of hemorrhagic events, the anatomical site, and the severity of the hemorrhage in patients receiving heparin or enoxaparin in combination with clop...
